A Different ‘Carp’

Quillback

Caught in a Casting Net while fishing for bait on May 30th 2016 at The Oxbow, this was obviously some sort of carp, but I had to Google New York Carp to discover it’s name.

A QUILLBACK CARPSUCKER

See the WIKI reference here

This fish is extremely difficult to catch with rod and line, so I feel very privileged to have actually seen and held this species. It appears it is headed for extinction, according to Wiki.  That would be a shame.  I returned my  catch to the canal.

I live in Fairport, and my home is at The Oxbow section of The Erie Canal. I fish, have a pontoon boat and like messing in boats. (see www.mud-skipper.com). I'm retired and enjoy every day living here with my wife Carol and our two dogs.
