The Cottages of Long Ago

These photographs were loaned to me by my good neighbor Gerry VanStrydonk. I think he took them himself many years ago. They give you  some idea of the lifestyle of the 1940s to the 1990s.

Here are some more I took of Flo’s Cottage, the last remaining structure, burnt down by vandals.

Here’s a link to an article on The Oxbow

Author: Mike Caswell

I live in Fairport, and my home is at The Oxbow section of The Erie Canal. I fish, have a pontoon boat and like messing in boats. (see www.mud-skipper.com). I'm retired and enjoy every day living here with my wife Carol and our two dogs.

  1. Just to be clear, the residents were not squatters. My parents bought the house we lived in, and paid New York State for a land permit. Everyone I knew who lived there did the same.

    1. I removed the word Squatters. It was written many years ago when I first started this blog, and they were frequently incorrectly called squatters. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
