Genesee Brewery Tanks Pass Through

The canal has been bustling with people this morning as folks have been taking strategic positions along the canal banks to photograph and video the passing of twelve huge stainless steel tanks. Their “Made in China’ label has upset some, but unfortunately, I believe no American companies bid on the project. Because of their size, they were shipped from the East Coast, up the Erie Canal to Rochester.

Today saw the first three tanks go by, and it was quite the largest thing I’ve ever seen pass by my house on the canal.  There may be another three tanks on a barge go by later today, and two barges tomorrow.

I’ve heard that one American Company, Corning Glass, won a contract to make a special Glass Lined Tank for Genesee Brewery, and that too is being floated along the canal. It will be moored up in Fairport for Canal Days.

I live in Fairport, and my home is at The Oxbow section of The Erie Canal. I fish, have a pontoon boat and like messing in boats. (see www.mud-skipper.com). I'm retired and enjoy every day living here with my wife Carol and our two dogs.
